The Swiss Open-Air Museum is divided into 13 areas, which stretch all the way from Jura to the Bernese Midlands and Central Switzerland, and on to the East Midlands and Valais. Each area is home to historic buildings specific to the region. 

Vom Jura, über das Berner Mittelland und die Zentralschweiz ins östliche Mittelland oder ins Wallis: Das Freilichtmuseum Ballenberg ist in 13 Geländekammern unterteilt. In jeder Geländekammer befinden sich für die Region typische, historische Gebäude.
